A Palliative Care Team led by St Luke's Churchwarden Elaine Hill has won a British Medical Journal (BMJ) Award for excellence in healthcare.

Elaine is hospice manager at the Marie Curie Hospice in Bradford and her team is part of the Last Year of Life Project of the local Palliative Care Managed Clinical Network.

"This involved hospices, hospitals and community working together to provide high quality care 24 hours a day, by sharing electronic patient records and a 24 hour helpline for patients families and health professionals to get instant medical advice and support," explains Elaine.

Her team won from a shortlist of five Palliative Care Teams, one of twelve categories in the 2015 BMJ awards.

The BMJ judges said, "The key strengths of the Last Year of Life Project were that it was an innovative, collaborative project that brought about an impressive amount of change and positive improvement in end of life care for people in this region."

Elaine and her team learned of their win and collected their award (which is sponsored by Macmillan Cancer Support) at a glittering event in May at the Westminster Park Plaza Hotel, London.
