Fracas as frack plan goes down the tube

This morning's 9.00am meeting in St Luke's Organ Undercroft to launch the Shanks Report into the proposed 'fracking' for shale gas under Burton Stone Lane by the Parochial Church Council has been cancelled following a dramatic intervention from London.

The Greater London Authority (GLA) and Transport for London (TfL) yesterday obtained an injunction to prevent St Luke's exercising its mining rights beneath the church and grounds.

On the 10th November 2013 TfL asked commuters on the Underground's Northern Line to walk or cycle instead of taking tube trains in an attempt to reduce overcrowding.

London's hot air outletA TfL spokesman said today, "The St Luke's fracking scheme would seriously damage our next creative initiative to reduce overcrowding on the Northern Line by extending it in order to spread the passengers over a greater length of track."

Chair of St Luke's Shale Gas Project Scrutiny Commission the Venerable Armitage Shanks said, "I admit we've been surprised to discover a London Underground station beneath St Luke's and it's galling to have lost the opportunity to harness the energy potential of the hot air we believe is down there. But I dare say that TfL and the GLA will find some other outlet for it."

Those planning to subscribe to the scheme are asked to make a donation to the good cause of their choice.
