Glyn Webster consecrated Bishop at York Minster

The new Bishop of Beverley with the Archbishop of York, in front of a staircase full of bishops after his consecration serviceCanon Glyn Webster, who was Vicar of St Luke's from 1981 to 1992, was consecrated Bishop of Beverley by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, in a service at York Minster on Friday 25th January.

Glyn was presented to the Archbishop by Bishops David Hope (former Archbishop of York) and Nigel McCulloch (Bishop of Manchester). In his sermon Dr Hope commented on Glyn's great gifts of friendship and his ability to see to the heart of a situation, reminding him of the need for bishops to see wide horizons, to listen as much or more than to speak, and to keep their focus on following Jesus so that others might follow their example.

The Bishop of Beverley is a Suffragan Bishop in the Province of York. The Bishop’s role is that of a Provincial Episcopal Visitor, assisting in the pastoral care of those parishes that have petitioned for Extended Episcopal Care under the Act of Synod – the Ordination of Women to the Priesthood.
