St Luke's Hostel launched on Easter Monday 2013

St Luke's Hostel in association with YEEHA

Easter Monday 2013 will see the launch of St Luke's new venture in association with Yorkshire Ecclesiastical Extensions Hostel Association to take advantage of new regulations permitting Church of England Parish Churches to include hostel accommodation within the envelope of the building.

Although the majority of beds provided will be at ground level in the church's nave to facilitate access for those with mobility issues, adaptations have been made to the building to provide higher-level accommodation in dormitories and family rooms.

The brainchild of former Archdeacon of Gridlington the Ven Armitage Shanks, YEEHA provides seedcorn funding and practical support for churches seeking to extend their ministry of hospitality and increase footfall within their existing facilities.

Yorkshire Ecclesiastical Extensions Hostel AssociationA grant to St Luke's described by Parish Treasurer David Coppice as "impressively modest" covered the cost of 15 tooth mugs and a ten-pack of recyclable biodegradable HD-ready thermally-efficient lean-burn low-energy rechargeable decaffeinated free-range low-emission conservation-grade welfare-friendly CFC-free hypo-allergenic longlife low-carbohydrate fairtrade dust sheets to conceal the stacked beds in the Chancel during St Luke's services.

Donations from St Luke's congregation have provided de-mountable wheeled sanitary facilities for the accommodation, described by Archdeacon Shanks as "Commodious".

St Luke's Vicar Steve Benford said, "Archdeacon Shanks' example in offering to collect the contents of the hostel's sanitary retention tanks himself is a characteristically generous offer from a man well-known for taking the initiative."
