Sign the e-Petition against VAT on listed building alterations!

VATThe Government's Spring 2012 Budget included plans to abolish the present arrangements for owners of listed buildings to reclain the VAT paid on authorises improvements and alterations, with effect from the 1st October 2012.

While St Luke's isn't a listed building, around two thirds of Church of England buildings fall into Grade II, Grade II* or Grade I listing, and so many of our neighbouring parishes are potentially amongst those affected.

At St luke's we can't reclaim any of our VAT, but because ours isn't a listed building we wouldn't be required to meet so many planning conditions on any alteration works we might plan to do.

It would be very helpful to a lot of listed churches if as many people as possible could sign the e-Petition to the Government started by the Church of England. Here's where to find it:

The closing date is the 30th June.
