The Revd Jacqueline (Jackie) Doyle-Brett is to be the next Vicar of St Luke the Evangelist, York.

She succeeds the Revd Dr Steve Benford who left the parish in 2014 to become Vicar of St Joseph the Worker, Northolt, London. Mrs Doyle-Brett also becomes part of the team responsible for fostering vocations to ministry in the church in the Diocese of York, with particular responsibility for those aged under 25.

Jackie Doyle-Brett, 53, is from the East Riding of Yorkshire and was ordained in 2013, since when she has served as Curate in the Tadcaster Benefice, which also includes Church Fenton, Newton Kyme and Kirkby Wharfe.

From 2003 to 2013 she was Head of Humanities and lead specialist in Religious Studies at Newland School for Girls in Hull, following three years as Head of History and lead specialist in Gifted and Talented education at Kingswood High School, Hull.

Jackie Doyle-Brett says, “I thank God for calling me to St Luke's and feel truly blessed to be its next Vicar.”

She added, “It will be a real privilege to walk alongside those in the parish on their journey of faith – and a joy to watch the seeds of vocation grow in those young people called to ministry in the Diocese of York.”

Married to Dave, a civil servant, Jackie gained her history degree from Hull University in 1999 during her years as a ‘stay-at-home mum’ to her two daughters (Sophia and Francesca, both now grown up and living in the South of England), following work in the civil service and in retail management.

Jackie Doyle-Brett maintains her interest in education currently as a Foundation Governor at Kirk Fenton Church of England Primary School, and until recently as a tutor in the training programme for Recognised Pastoral Assistants run by the Diocese of York to bring lay church members into active ministry amongst their communities.

She has a particular interest in issues of equality and discrimination in society and in the church, and in developing contemplative spirituality in herself and others.

In 2015 Mrs Doyle-Brett was elected as one of the eleven representatives of the Diocese of York on the Church of England’s General Synod, serving for five years.

St Luke’s Churchwarden Elaine Hill said, “Jackie’s enthusiasm for St Luke’s is infectious and we can’t wait to welcome her – we’ve been praying for her since 2014 even before we knew who she was!”

Jackie Doyle-Brett will be collated as Vicar of St Luke’s by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, on the evening of Thursday 16th June 2016.
