Vicar Steve to leave St Luke's this autumn

Steve and LorraineOn the 20th July, St Luke's Vicar Steve Benford announced that he has been appointed Vicar of St Joseph the Worker, Northolt in north west London, and he will leave St Luke's in October.

With Lorraine and their teenage children Ashley, Dominic, Jessica and Justin, Steve came to St Luke's in March 2004 following the Revd Tim Gill who had left in September 2002.

Steve, a doctor by profession, had served as Curate in Northallerton while working as an anaesthetist at the Friarage Hospital there. Since his post at St Luke's has been half-time, he has continued to work at the Friarage for two days a week throughout his time at St Luke's.

His post in the large and busy parish in Northolt will be full-time, and so Steve will finally be giving up his medical career.

The ten years Steve and Lorraine have spent at St Luke's have seen many changes, including for them as all four children have grown up. Their well and widely-loved labrador Shola is no longer with them but the equally well-loved labradoodle Millie-Friday will be off to London with them.

Steve's last Sunday at St Luke's will be in October and there will be more to be said then; in the meantime, the Parochial Church Council will be in touch with the Archdeacon and the Archbishop to begin planning for the period immediately after Steve's departure, and for the process of identifying who will follow him.

St Luke's worship and daily life will of course continue much as usual, led by the team of clergy, readers and others who presently work with Steve.

In the meantime we will pray for Steve and Lorraine and their move to the deep south, and for our church and community as we face this next adventure together.
