York Mystery Plays 2014 - Update

In November, we announced that St Luke’s has been invited to perform the Harrowing of Hell in this year’s Mystery Plays. This year, the plays will once again be performed on waggons around the streets of York as they were in the middle ages. St Luke’s will be one of twelve diverse groups participating in the production, which will, when seen as a whole, recount the Christian history of the world from Creation to Last Judgement.

Since November’s announcement a great deal of work has been going on in the background. The organising board responsible for the overall production have been planning and preparing the diverse elements that go into a production of this nature. Here at St Luke’s our own production team have been meeting to give some shape to our play.

So – now is the time to think about how YOU would like to be involved in this year’s production. We are looking for people to participate in a wide range of areas and hope that, once again, our play will truly represent the gifts and talents of as many of our community as possible. We are looking for people to perform in the play, taking a speaking or non-speaking part, as a singer or as part of the waggon team. Set building and painting, costume and prop making, all take time and we are looking for as much support in these areas as possible to spread the workload. All offers of help will be much appreciated.

On Sunday 2nd March at 12 noon (following the morning service), we will be holding a meeting for people to find out more and sign up to be involved. This will be followed by a read through for those who might be considering a speaking role. We will have a bring and share lunch to start the meeting.

This is a great way to get involved in a fun event, get to know other people at St Luke’s and work as a community. Come by yourself or bring the whole family.

For further information or if you are unable to make the meeting please speak to Lynn Comer, Mike Tyler or Gillian Tyler.
